County council creates digital map of Hertfordshire’s footpaths, bridleways and byways

More than 2,000 miles of Hertfordshire’s public countryside footpaths, bridleways and byways are now available on Google Maps.

Developed by the county council’s Countryside and Rights of Way staff, along with colleagues in the web team, this innovation can be used on a mobile phone.

Cllr Phil Bibby, HCC's cabinet member for environment, said: “As well as being a valuable tool to promote Hertfordshire’s network of over 2,000 miles of rights of way, this new map supports the goals of the new Local Transport Plan with its emphasis on active travel.

“It is also intended to encourage more people to get out and active in the countryside, improving health and wellbeing.”
