Sleeping Beauty at Rhodes: Young Bishop's Stortford panto performers tuck in to a Beauty of a tea party

Young actors who will be appearing in this year’s pantomime at Rhodes Arts Complex met their choral teams when the theatre threw a celebratory tea party.

Auditions in June for Sleeping Beauty attracted 78 youngsters aged nine to 18. The 22 who made the cut to join the junior chorus have been split into three teams: Sparkle, Dazzle and Glitter.

On Sunday, September 22, the Rhodes team laid on a tea party for the youngsters, presented them with bespoke rehearsal T-shirts and decorated the Maltings Bar with balloons and banners.

This gave the teams a chance to meet the principal members of the cast, who play Prince Adolpho, Prince Felix, Fairy Midnight, Fairy Light, Dame and Jester, plus the show’s director, Ian McFarlane.

After the feast, the principal cast, ensemble and junior chorus cast were taken for a photo shoot.

Sarah Medhurst, the venue’s marketing manager, said: “Everyone had a wonderful day getting to know each other and all went home thrilled to be part of this year’s pantomime and excited to get into rehearsals this month.”
