Two road closures and road works cause Monday morning traffic misery in Bishop’s Stortford
Motorists were hit with a raft of road works including two road closures causing Monday morning misery in Bishop’s Stortford.
Residents were reporting difficulty in getting into and out of the southside of town after the closure of Linkside Road and road works on London Road. Later on a small section at the bottom of Hadham Road was closed for work by Affinity Water.
Open Reach began work to repair a junction box on the pathway near the junction of Pig Lane last week, leading to the closure of a section of the southbound carriageway and the installation of three way traffic signals. It is believed the box was damaged after a vehicle collided with it.
Residents say they have lost phone lines and internet connection for almost a week following the accident.
Motorists have suffered long delays as the traffic signals do not appear to be co-ordinated with the lights at the junction of nearby Whittington Way. The work is due to finish on Wednesday (June 26).
A spokesperson for Open Reach told the Indie on Monday: “We can confirm that two connected cabinets in Bishop's Stortford have been substantially damaged following a road traffic accident. This is affecting broadband and landlines in the vicinity.
"Our engineers have carried out initial repairs, restoring broadband service to some customers in the area. More work is set to be carried out in the coming days to restore all services back to normal as soon as possible.”
The spokesperson added: “We understand how frustrating this must be for anyone is affected and we thank anyone involved for their patience while we get things fixed.
“Anyone experiencing any disruption with their phone or broadband service to report it to their service provider who will then inform us. Members of the public can help us by reporting any damage or unsafe equipment on our network via the Help and Support section of our website."
Drivers were also complaining that there was no warning of the closure of Linkside Road, with one saying he only discovering the road was blocked after getting to the end of Beldams Lane. The repair and maintenance work by Affinity Water is due to finish on Wednesday.
Although drivers complained over the disruption one resident posting on Facebook said he was glad of the peace and quiet and escape from people taking a short-cut into town.
Later in the morning a short section of the A1250 Hadham Road was closed near the junction of Bells Hill for essential maintenance and repair work by Affinity Water workers. There has been an ongoing flood in the roadway in front of building works at the site of The Bricklayers Arms pub for some months. The work is due to finish on Wednesday.
